BFA EXHIBITION: INFLUX

Senior Capstone, 2023

“Our world is constantly in a state of flux, and as the world changes around us, design changes along with it. Throughout time, design has shape-shifted in response to the new challenges and ideas time invites into our world. As designers, this forces us to question how to catalyze change through design in order to serve the needs of others and our environment in the best way possible. How do the changes in our society influence the ways in which we design?”

Before graduating from the college of Fine Arts at UT, the students organize an exhibition dedicated to our final projects. I decided to introduce Speculative Design to the general audience with The Corset and The Cronus. I’ve always enjoyed science fiction and films that use design to tell a story, so I wanted to use my design skills to create my own future. The exhibtion was about translating what I had finished with industrial design into an atmosphere that would explain the goals of my project. How would the past and future influence eachother?

By designing a space of the future, I wanted to bring these two objects together in a bar. Since The Cronus is hidden in speakeasies and The Corset is worn during the night, a bar would be the space where these two designs can coexist. The purpose of this design is support the story of Speculative Futures and in the end, to create a space where laws no longer protect “prey.”
