Typography in Film Title Sequence
Design Zine, 2022

Adapted from the Graduate Thesis by Li Yu.

The Typography in Film Title Sequence Design touches on the decisions made in the design film industry to open films based on graphics and typography. I’ve always been interested in how design connects with films and being able to make a zine to express that  interest was very important for me.  The priority for this project was using InDesign to construct a cohesive layout that supported the thesis of Li Yu.  Zines are known for being easily accessible for people who want information fast and efficiently. Using one shade of blue ink,  I took the most important chapters of the essay and supported the information with hierarchy and visuals. By using the texture of halftone when it was risographed, I was able to create a retro design that used both negative and positive space to further the point  of the importance of title sequences. I also wanted to use each body of text to support the layout in a way that would not distract the reader, so I did not want to sacrifice technical rules for style. This was one of my favorite zines to work on because it shows how printing and layout can make an impact by sharing accessible information.
